A brasserie institution in Paris since the '20s, Thoumieux came under the restaurant stewardship of Thierry Costes in 2009 who unveiled a new 15-room boutique hotel on the property as well as upstairs gastro -annex Le Restaurant de Jean- François Piège. Still favoring the original Thoumieux with its all-day menu and more reasonable prices, the restaurant offers a quaff Parisian design heavy of brass and marble with cozy wooden banquettes and closely packed tables privy to celeb diners from Calvin Klein to Karl Lagerfeld.
The Food
With better food and far less tourists than once formidable dining rooms like Le Grand Colbert, Thoumieux puts a modern edge and face on the classic brasserie complete with the Costes’ famous selection of model-perfect wait-staff. A thoroughly French menu gets a few flavorful twists from chef Jean- François Piège who also leads the more formal upstairs eatery that’s open for dinner-only. Flavorful dishes range from a full raw bar to seafood-laden salads and more traditional café appetizers. Mains include a trove of hearty chicken and quintessential steak frites in addition to a classic omelet and select pasta dishes
